Teaching Professor (all ranks) or Instructor

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering seek applicants for a position of Teaching Professor (all ranks) or Instructor. The School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering, one of the eight Fulton Schools, houses a vibrant multidisciplinary bioengineering research community (Learn more at https://research.engineering.asu.edu/). We seek applicants who complement our abilities in these areas to solve grand challenges as part of a community of experts. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to, synthetic biology, systems bioengineering, bioimaging, biosensors, molecular, cellular, and tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and neural rehabilitation engineering.

We seek applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the university to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship, and conducting use-inspired research.

Appointment will be at the Instructor, Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or (Full) Teaching Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2024. 

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Earned M.S. or Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a field related to the stated teaching focus of this position by the time of appointment.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate’s rank.
• Teaching experience in an undergraduate engineering program.
• Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning and expertise in Biomedical Engineering curriculum innovation.

Desired qualifications:  

• History of university-level instruction related to Biomedical Engineering undergraduate courses and basic applied mathematics with an emphasis on physiology for engineers, biomedical instrumentation, biomaterials, and/or molecular techniques.
• Familiarity with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
• Ideally, the position will include curating and managing interactions with external partners for student projects, including capstone design projects. The ability to manage a cell culture facility for student projects is considered a plus.
