Oversee daily operations of the Veterans Center. Function as an official representative of the College at local, regional, and national Veterans conferences/trainings and events. Develop comprehensive program plans, including strategic objectives, timelines, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with the University's mission and goals. Prepare and manage budgets for program initiatives, meticulously track expenditures to maximize resources and ensure fiscal responsibility. Implement federal guidelines and regulations relevant to the programs, ensuring compliance and adherence to statutory requirements. This position reports to the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Act as the lead advocate in all matters relating to the needs and services of a veteran, military member, and/or affiliated to ensure students at the college have a positive and supported college experience.
  • Provide in person and remote programming and student life support for the entire Student Veteran lifecycle and serve as a liaison between the Veterans Center and the College and local communities.
  • Advise students of regulations regarding use of veterans' benefits, requirements, BHCC policies and procedures and provide support to the School Certifying Official with all processes and aspects of student veteran's education claim processing. Ensure all documentation, adjustments and certifications are accurate and reported to the Department of Veterans Affairs in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Manage the hiring, supervision and evaluation of student staff for the Veterans Center and advise the Student Veterans Organization.
  • Serve on a variety of cross-functional teams and lead Student Veteran recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Plan and organize Veterans Celebration events to honor and recognize veterans' service to the country in collaboration with the Events Department and Student Engagement Office and plan, recognize Student Veterans accomplishments, and assist with commencement.
  • Serve as a resource on state and federal compliance requirements. Engage in advocacy work relating to military and veterans' educational benefits; ensure documentation is complete, organized, and prepared for annual federal audits with Student Financial Services.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, students, staff and guests to the college as well as all local, state and national Veterans organizations and other off-campus partners.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for veterans' programs, ensuring funds are allocated efficiently and effectively to maximize the impact of services provided.
  • Prepare compliance reporting and collect and analyze data on program outcomes and participant demographics to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Performs related administrative duties, assignments, or special projects as required.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree with three years' experience working with veterans or equivalent combination of higher education experience and education.
  • Strong knowledge of veterans' benefits, entitlements, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including veterans and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing processes with deadline dependent tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a college environment and preferably in an academic or student services office
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding, interpreting and enforcing policy and procedures
  • Previous experience with continuous process improvement.


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $70,120 - $76,491. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full state Benefits.

Grade: 6 Unit-Professional position
