Career Development Coordinator, FGCU R.I.S.E.


Job Summary
The Career Development Coordinator, FGCU R.I.S.E. coordinates employment and internship opportunities for the FGCU R.I.S.E. (Real Independence, Successful Employment) program. Provides opportunities for career exploration and education, career advising and planning, the development of job search skills and strategies, networking and interviewing skills, and connection to internship and employment options.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Provides opportunities for career exploration and education, career advising and planning, the development of job search skills and strategies, on-site job coaching, networking and interviewing skills, connection to internship and employment options, and five-year follow-up.
  • Oversees all internship placements and supervision of internships for R.I.S.E. program participants. Works with community agencies to facilitate job placements for R.I.S.E program completers.
  • Meets face to face, over the phone, and virtually with program participants to assist them in obtaining experiential learning opportunities and/or employment.
  • Promotes employment of R.I.S.E. students on campus and in the community. Serves as a liaison to employers and agency representatives and creates and maintains strong collaborative relationships with participating and potential employers.
  • Teaches courses related to professional career development, career seminars, and internships. Serves as instructor of record for SLS 1304 Career Exploration (2 credits), SLS 1350 Employability Skills (2 credits), SLS 1320 Exploring Learning from Experience (2 credits), SLS 1305 Professional Career Development (2 credits), SLS 2930 Career Seminar (2 credits), and SLS 2940 Career Internship (2 credits), totaling six credits for Fall semester and six credits for Spring semester.
  • Educates students about access to internships and employment opportunities, and help with career counseling for students
  • Participates in administering policies and procedures to optimize processes and ensure compliance.
  • Collects and analyzes data and statistics related to career development and internships of R.I.S.E with programs leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Conduct workshops, career events, and presentations.
  • Attends assigned Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities (FCSUA) webinars and annual in-person meetings.


Other Duties:
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Special Education or related field.
  • Experience working with and teaching students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook).
  • Teaching certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities in career development and transition.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to present to large groups.
