Job Summary
Florida Gulf Coast University seeks an innovative, student-centered, and collaborative leader to serve as Director of the Daveler and Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship and Mark Ain Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship (https://www.fgcu.edu/school-of-entrepreneurship/) at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Reporting to the Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director is the chief academic and executive officer of the Daveler and Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship and Mark Ain Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship and serves as a member of the University's academic leadership team. In addition to providing overall leadership and strategic direction, the Director manages faculty and staff, fiscal resources, compliance with accreditation standards, community outreach, fundraising, marketing and enrollment, interdisciplinary initiatives, and physical facilities of the School. The Director is accountable for the quality of academic programs and for building undergraduate and graduate programs of excellence. The Director also mentors faculty, promotes quality and excellence in scholarship and service, and fosters an environment of openness and civility, all with the goal of enhancing student success. The Director nurtures existing relationships with partners in industry and agencies and develops new relationships in the community and across the University in support of its innovative programs. The Director also works closely with the School's Advisory Council and nurtures relationships with its Alumni. As the Mark Ain Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship, the successful candidate will also be expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized program of scholarship.

With an enrollment of over 16,000 students, FGCU has a master-planned main campus of 800 acres with LEED-certified buildings and 400 acres of protected lands. FGCU is located in beautiful Southwest Florida, known for its beaches, resorts, natural areas, and outdoor recreation. Located between the cities of Fort Myers and Naples, FGCU is just two hours by car from the major cities of St. Petersburg, Tampa, and Miami, and 15 minutes from the Southwest Florida International Airport. One of 12 universities in the State University System of Florida, FGCU is a Carnegie Doctoral/Professional University classified for Community Engagement, as well as an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution.

The Daveler and Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship at FGCU is housed in its own facility completed in 2021 and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Entrepreneurship as well as an undergraduate degree in Digital Media Design. In only six years, the undergraduate Entrepreneurship program has grown to become the highest ranked undergraduate entrepreneurship program in Florida. The School also hosts an Entrepreneurship Living and Learning Community for incoming freshmen. The School is home to the Rist Institute for Entrepreneurship, which includes a signature Runway Program Startup Incubator for students and alumni as well as a Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program to launch and scale veteran-owned businesses. The Digital Media Design program houses its own fully equipped Makerspace and Media Room.

Job Description

The successful candidate will have exemplary academic achievements, qualifying for the rank of Professor in their discipline, and will have a record of progressive and sustained academic leadership in higher education. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated creative ideation and experience in successfully starting and growing a business or other entrepreneurial ventures.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Lead the development of a strategic plan that focuses on student success, the elevation of scholarly research, and service to the community
  • Empower the School's faculty, staff, and students to be a driver of economic diversification and development in Southwest Florida and beyond
  • Forge partnerships with businesses and entrepreneurs in the community, as well as with other colleges and schools at FGCU, to create innovative opportunities for entrepreneurship students
  • Serve as a compassionate leader possessing outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Actively engage in fundraising and in acquiring additional resources
  • Inspire, engage, and support faculty and staff to maximize their contributions to the missions of the School and the University
  • Effectively represents the college in university-wide and interdivisional leadership committees and meetings.
  • Demonstrate experience as a collaborator, problem-solver, consensus-builder, communicator, innovator, and role model in a university setting

Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Entrepreneurship, Graphic Design, or relevant discipline with a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service that merits appointment as Professor and Endowed Chair in an appropriate academic discipline within the School of Entrepreneurship.
  • A significant record of progressively higher administrative responsibility during one's academic career

Appointment will be made at the rank of Professor on a 12-month, out-of-unit, multi-year appointment basis beginning as early as in July 2024.
