This position may consist of driving a mix of vehicles ranging from trucks, vans and small box trucks. The position involves the ability to load carts, pallets and individual
bundles of newspapers, newspapers racks and supplies and then deliver and unload these items at Distribution Centers, drop locations and retail outlets.
Driver responsibilities also include but are not limited to: preparing paperwork, routing deliveries, securing loads, and verifying loads and deliveries.
Drivers will conduct themselves in accordance with company policies and procedures; ensure quality customer service and professional representation
when dealing with employees, customers, retailers or the general public and use sound judgment and discretion at all times.
Responsible for delivery of daily and non-daily products to Distribution Centers, drop locations, carriers, and retailers.
Accurately load and unload trucks containing various print publications in bundles or on carts and pallets.
Route deliveries to assure the most efficient and timely delivery of product.
Keep work area clean and safe by picking up trash and debris in and around the loading dock, distribution area and trucks on a daily basis.
Ensure safe operation of company vehicles.
Must follow the Gannett Safety Module for driving and adhere to all Federal and State regulations.
Report any mechanical issues with company owned vehicles to supervisor.
Perform DOT approved pre and post trip inspections of vehicles and maintain accurate log book.
Re-fuel, check oil, add routine fluids and provide basic cleanliness to vehicles.
Responsible for personal safety and the completion of periodic safety training.
Maintain a professional, courteous manner when dealing with contractors and customers.
Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
At least two years of experience driving designated equipment type.
Must meet all Federal and State DOT regulations and physical requirements as well as Driver’s License requirements.
Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Must have the ability to safely operate trucks.
Thorough knowledge of State and Federal driving regulations.
Good time management skills with the ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently and safely.
Neat, clean appearance conforming to department policy.
Ability to read maps and route manifests.
Ability to communicate with contractors, co-workers, company staff, retailers, and customers.
Basic computer and data entry skills.
Ability to accurately count and use basic math skills.
Ability to work varied days, hours and shifts from week to week including weekends and holidays as needed.
Ability to work and/or drive in all-weather environments and conditions.
Ability to effectively receive and relay information and instructions.
Must be able to push and pull carts loaded with newspapers and
repetitively lift newspaper bundles weighing between 10-20 pounds.Ability to use manual pallets jacks.
Ability to function with minimum direct supervision.
Minimum age requirement of 21 years of age.
CDL Preferred.Education
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Related Experience
Previous newspaper or distribution/warehouse experience preferred.
