Position Summary
Scene Shop Supervisor
The Jeanine Larson Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance
Full-Time; 10-Month Renewable Professional Staff Position
Primary Responsibilities
Each year, from July 15 to May 15:
- Manage the daily operations of the scene shop
- Oversee and participate in the construction of scenery, stage rigging, sound engineering, electrics, scene painting, and welding
- Coordinate or supervise the coordination of properties for all main-stage productions
- Assist in planning and organizing projects
- Conduct routine general maintenance, provide upkeep of shop machinery, and provide inventory management
- Assist with scenery installations and strikes of all conservatory productions
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma and 7 years of professional experience as a carpenter and/or stagehand OR Bachelor's Degree and significant professional experience as a carpenter and/or stagehand
- Ability to read construction drawings and interpret scene designers' works
- Demonstrated rigging skills
- Demonstrated electrical and sound skills
- Experience in properties
- Experience in various techniques of scene painting
- Experience or desire to learn welding
- Ability to follow proper usage of equipment and enforce safety standards
- Demonstrated supervisory skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability and willingness to train students of various levels of proficiency
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong collaboration skills, working with professional staff and faculty
- Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours
- Ability to adhere to strict production schedules and meet deadlines
