Job Title: Associate Director of Institutional Research



Reports to: Executive Director of Institutional Research

Campus: Queens

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research (IR), this role will be responsible for the administration of the University's course evaluation process. This individual will collaborate to respond to internal and external data requests in a timely and effective manner, develop appropriate data analytical reports and share accordingly.

Essential Functions:
  • Upload relevant student, course and faculty data from the University's database to the Student Evaluating of Teaching(SET) system (currently Class Climate) in a timely manner throughout the academic year. Work with appropriate areas as needed to ensure accuracy of data as well as to ensure that special student populations/courses that do not follow the standard semester cycle or process, are accommodated. Use the online course evaluation tool and other tools as required to manage the process; administer course evaluations; analyze data; and disseminate results/reports to course instructor, school/college deans, department chairs, senior leadership, and the University community. Collaborate with colleagues in promoting the SET and answering any student or faculty questions regarding the process.
  • Complete special research projects including statistical/quantitative analyses and ad hoc data requests from both academic and administrative areas to assist in their planning and decision making in a timely fashion. Develops data reports based on the extraction, transforming, and analyzing large data sets from internal and external databases.
  • Take the lead in creating data visualizations and dashboards for institutional research including data reports and survey research.
  • Assist in compiling data in compliance with external reporting requirements for federal, state and accreditation agencies.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the continuous development of policies and procedures relating to data governance, data integrity and reporting best practices.
  • Maintain archive of institutional research resources and documentation library of practices including data sources, methods, standard naming conventions.
  • Represent the IR office and university by serving on various campus committees and through participation in external groups.
  • Assist in maintaining the IR website and in educating colleagues on the uses of institutional research and data in general.
  • Assist in the daily operation of the Office of Institutional Research in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Competencies
  • Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis with the ability to review, analyze and interpret data as well as recognize/resolve inconsistencies.
  • Proven performance with Microsoft Office 365 applications and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Extensive knowledge of SPSS/SAS/R, Python, and database query experience are strongly desired.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner and familiarity with reporting tools such as Oracle Hyperion, Argos, and Power BI.
  • Experience with extracting, transforming, loading, analyzing large data sets and web publishing.
  • Must have superior attention to detail and strong follow-through ability and problem-solving skills; outstanding organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Accuracy and timeliness are essential. Ability to anticipate and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of constituencies in the University.
  • Personal orientation toward service to others and support of the University's Vincentian Mission of service.


Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; bend and stretch to file documents. The employee must work on a computer.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Travel

Travel is primarily local and may include visits to the other NY campuses or to local institutions for occasional meetings.

Required Education and Experience:
  • MA/MS required Ph.D/Ed.D preferred.
  • Eight plus years of related professional experience in a data analyst or data support position required.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual/hourly salary range for this position is $91,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
