The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Office of Institutional Advancement seeks a Development Associate maintains records in UMBC's alumni and donor database and is part of the Advancement Services & Donor Relations team within the Office of Institutional Advancement.

Primary responsibilities include conducting research and biographical maintenance received from online giving and engagement Web sites, phonathon, events, news alerts, and other sources; performing regular list management, quality checks, and clean-up data projects; and maintaining paper and electronic files. Incumbent will regularly process charitable donations to the university.

The Development Associate will follow established policies and procedures for gift processing and alumni/donor/prospect data management as well data security practices. S/he must maintain proficiency in the Ellucian Advance database and serve as a resource to colleagues. Other responsibilities include assisting with departmental donor stewardship projects, communicating regularly with university and UMBC Foundation employees, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requires a Bachelor's degree and one year direct sales, database maintenance, or fundraising experience which may have involved phonathon, alumni relations, or special events.

Must be able to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and changing priorities; be organized and detail-oriented; have the ability to interpret, apply, and explain a wide variety of policies and procedures; have strong interpersonal and customer service skills; and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.

Note:  Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Experience in data entry/data control is preferred. Higher education fundraising and previous experience with a development/fundraising database and Microsoft Excel is helpful.
