Job Description
The Biomedical Engineering Program within the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) at the University of Hartford invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor specializing in Biomechanics to start in the Fall 2024 semester for its ABET-accredited Biomedical Engineering program. An earned doctorate in the areas of Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline is required, though persons nearing completion will be considered. The position requires a solid commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in education. Essential Job Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) teach undergraduate courses in Biomechanics, Senior Capstone Design, as well as other undergraduate biomedical engineering and/or engineering science courses integrating current engineering technologies, (2) develop Biomechanics research or other closely related areas and disseminate the results of their research, (3) contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service, (4) be committed to working as an academic advisor to mentor diverse students and community populations and to contribute to student recruitment and retention, and (5) participate in departmental, college, and/or university committees. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies (UIS) curriculum. Significant opportunities exist for research collaboration with faculty members within the Biomedical Engineering program, the college, across the university, and with industrial partners. Required Qualifications
Required:
Candidates must have a doctorate degree in Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, and/or a closely related engineering discipline, though persons nearing completion will be considered. Applicants who are currently in all-but-dissertation (ABD) status must specify a firm completion date in their curriculum vitae. An undergraduate degree in Engineering is expected, with a preference for a concentration in the practical applications of biomechanics and/or biomedical engineering. Candidates without these qualifications may not be considered for the position.

Preferred: Applicants are expected to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellence, particularly in teaching, research, professional development, and service activities. The successful candidate should excel in the following teaching aspects: (1) utilize their doctoral degree and specialized research to contribute to the discipline and teaching of biomedical engineering specifically, (2) exhibit a strong track record in teaching various disciplines and topics within biomechanics or biomedical engineering at the undergraduate level, (3) display experience and/or a keen interest in developing courses and curriculum within the field of biomechanics, (4) possess the ability to establish a sustainable research program that involves undergraduate students, enriching their learning experience, and (5) showcase experience and/or interest in student recruitment, retention strategies, and effectively preparing students for their future careers. In addition, adequate proficiency in both written and oral communication in English is essential to excel in these teaching-oriented responsibilities.

This role mandates the ability to actively support and highlight the diversity goals of the program, department, college, and/or university. Therefore, the ideal candidate should demonstrate: (1) proficiency in engaging with diverse student groups, effectively collaborating in both teaching and research activities, and (2) demonstrated ability to provide impactful mentorship and guidance specifically tailored to students from BIPOC communities.

The College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture offers undergraduate Engineering programs in Electrical, Computer, Acoustical and Music, Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, and Robotics. It also offers undergraduate Engineering Technology programs in Audio, Computer and Electronic, Electromechanical, as well as Architectural Design + Technology.
