Job Description Summary:
This person is a member of the Office of Medical Education (OME) department and reports to the Program Director, Curriculum Resources and Technology for the School of Medicine to develop and manage electronic educational content and to provide day-to-day technical support in the medical education technology program. This program designs, develops and implements educational technology products and services for undergraduate medical education. This program includes devising appropriate learning technology solutions for students and faculty applicable to all medical school campuses.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in educational/instructional technology, education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or related field. A combination of education and relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year for year basis.

Work Experience:
  • Experience being part of complex projects with multiple and overlapping deadlines
  • Experience utilizing or managing a variety of educational technology, development, and workplace solution tools (i.e., Blackboard, Panopto, Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.


Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in educational/instructional technology, education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or related field. A combination of education and relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year for year basis.

Work Experience:
  • One or more years of experience working in educational technology setting that demonstrates the application of change management process.
  • One or more semesters in higher education teaching experience
  • Experience working with faculty and staff in a health education or higher education setting.
  • One or more years of experience directly providing support in a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle) and other educational technology tools (OASIS, ExamSoft, Panopto, Poll Everywhere, etc.)
  • One or more years of experience directly providing support for workplace technology solutions (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, other M365 products, etc.)
  • At least one year of experience training others in the effective use of technology.
  • Active participation in professional associations and organizations in the field of educational technology (e.g., membership, conferences, presentations, publications, grants, etc.)


Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills; and a commitment to working in a professional, collaborative team environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work with the Program Director, Curriculum Resources and Technology (CRT) to manage and evaluate technology hardware, tools, and processes in undergraduate medical education by utilizing sound technological and pedagogical strategies, principles, and practices.
  • Provide day-to-day support of enterprise educational technologies managed by CRT/OME and management services of curriculum resources to block directors, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assist faculty with design and development of course materials as needed by utilizing instructional design principles. This includes print, graphic, multimedia, and audio/visual. Support faculty with specialized video production and editing when required.
  • Monitor medical students enrolled in medical education research electives designed to develop and implement technology in the medical student curriculum.
  • Monitor and provide guidance to students designated as ambassadors for classroom faculty lecturers and assist with their onboarding.
  • Support and model existing policies and procedures and collaborate with Program Director on documentation of new policies and procedures for technology related programs based on current goals.
  • Remain current on education and technology news, developments, and tools; engage in professional and scholarly activities (i.e., professional association membership, conferences); effectively integrate innovations into the school's teaching and learning practices.
  • Promote and facilitate the utilization of (emerging) educational technologies. Assist in developing appropriate content and training materials with accompanying documentation in close collaboration with OME staff as well faculty and academic/technical support staff at KUMC.
  • Participate in accreditation activities.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
