Job Description Summary:
The Lab of Dr. Severin O. Gudima at the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology of the University of Kansas Medical Center currently has an opening for a research technician position to conduct research in the field of human hepatitis B virus (HBV) and its sub-viral agent human hepatitis delta virus (HDV). We are looking for a dedicated individual, who has a passion for scientific research. The position will require conducting various experiments, which will include isolation of DNA and RNA from cells, media, serum and tissues, performing PCR, RT-PCR and qPCR analysis, cloning and sequencing, Western blot, immunoblotting, Northern analysis, immuno-precipitation, culturing mammalian cells, preparation of virus stocks and infection of primary cells, and other molecular biology/molecular virology techniques. Experience in molecular biology and/or virology research techniques is strongly preferred. Experience in the HBV/HDV area of research is desirable. Having a bachelor's degree in virology/molecular biology or another related life science discipline will be a plus.

  • Education: Minimum Associate's degree

  • Work Experience: Experience in molecular biology and/or virology techniques is strongly preferred. Experience in the HBV/HDV area of research is desirable.
  • Skills: Ability to (i) conduct isolation of DNA and RNA from cells, media, serum and tissues, (ii) perform PCR, RT-PCR and qPCR analysis, cloning and sequencing, Western blot, immunoblotting, Northern analysis, immuno-precipitation, (iii) culture mammalian cells, (iv) prepare virus stocks and conduct infection of primary cells.


Job Duties Outlined:
  • (i) Conduct isolation of DNA and RNA from cells, media, serum and tissues, (ii) perform PCR, RT-PCR and qPCR analysis, cloning and sequencing, Western blot, immunoblotting, Northern analysis, immuno-precipitation, (iii) culture mammalian cells, (iv) prepare virus stocks and conduct infection of primary cells.
  • Maintain communications between the Lab and Research coordinator in the Liver Center, and between the Lab and Genomics Core in terms of the receiving samples from the Hospital, and submitting samples for analysis in the Core facility.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
