Paid training to become a crucial part of our biomedical research teams at the University of Pittsburgh!The Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute (STI) of the University of Pittsburgh is excited to announce this paid training position in the field of small animal microsurgery. Microsurgery uses high-powered microscopes to assist in performing surgeries involving small vessels, nerves, and/or other tissues and can be applied in a wide range of surgical settings. As a trainee at our world-renowned institute, you will have the opportunity to learn the art of performing skin, heart, and kidney transplants in mice under the guidance of experts in transplantation and immunology. Microsurgery is challenging, but these skills are in high demand and will allow you to be a valued contributing member of our research teams. Over the course of one year, the incumbent will receive training and hands-on experience that will equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a successful microsurgeon. This program is designed to provide comprehensive understanding of the techniques, procedures, and best practices used in the field of microsurgery while earning a competitive salary. Upon completion of the training period, trainees who exhibit excellent progress and skill may have the opportunity to continue their career at the STI. Microsurgeons will be granted co-authorships in high impact publications of cutting-edge scientific endeavors that rely on microsurgeries. In addition, travel to major transplant science meetings that are held annually will be supported by the Institute. Job Summary

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
