MR08 – Starting salary dependent upon candidate’s qualifications and experience

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the electrical foreman, this position inspects, maintains, and installs high voltage electrical systems and related components including but not limited to transformers, switches, switch gear, substation, and line work above and below ground. Make skillful decisions based on knowledge and experience. Perform diagnostics, maintain, or repair all electrical HV systems on campus. Ensure reliable operation of all critical research and laboratory electrical systems distributed to campus buildings. Studying blueprints, taking off materials, inventorying stock, and ordering materials. Study technical manuals and equipment information to improve knowledge and understanding of all the campus electrical systems and associated equipment. Take available classes online and from vendors to stay up to date on the latest maintenance and control strategies and technology. Complete training to maintain and update skills, to assist contractors, other shops, and to be able to instruct and assist junior personnel in proper procedures and daily work. Assists with the inspection and repair of outdoor lighting systems and sports facility lighting. Report job information to supervision including any repairs, issues, deficiencies, and needed parts to correct the assigned problem on lighting and all electrical systems. Work with other departments and craft disciplines to assisting in the completion of reported problems and assignments. Report any unsafe practices or conditions discovered in a timely manner. Assist in the preparation of and work special events as assigned. Perform any other work as assigned by supervisor and assists all other team members in the performance of duties.


Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of two years of experience in high voltage or electrical distribution system construction and maintenance techniques or, one year with formal training. Must have experience or training in proper safety requirements and procedures. Must have experience with fifteen kilovolt underground systems. Experience working in a team atmosphere. Knowledge of proper safety requirements and procedures is a must. Must possess or have the ability to acquire a good working knowledge of all electrical and distribution system practices. A knowledge of industrial electricity and job skills. The ability to read blueprints or plans and procure necessary materials. The ability to work on live high voltage and other electrical system components when necessary. The ability to climb utility poles, sports lighting poles, and structures. The ability to work in confined spaces, under adverse conditions, and in high places. The ability to perform hard physical work for long periods; to lift, pull, and push heavy loads as necessary. Good hand and eye coordination, mechanical aptitude, and reasonable intelligence. A good working knowledge of high voltage tools, equipment and machinery. Must have or be able to acquire CPR training and other life safety skills as required by OSHA or other regulatory agencies. The ability to work with others in a cooperative manner to complete work, with or without direct supervision.

Applicant must have a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License.

Must be available for overtime and emergency response if needed to support campus electrical systems and prevent interruptions of service.
